    Running Malwarebytes in Win 8.1

I realize that the Pro version of Malwarebytes should not be running on Windows 8 if you have Windows Defender running. But am I correct in understanding that there will be no problem with the free version of Malwarebytes since it does not have a firewall?

I have been running Windows Defender and MalwareBytes Pro on my Window 8.1 pc since I upgraded from Windows 7 and 8. I have absolutely no problem with them running side by side. In checking on Google, many other users also run them both with no problems. Where is it written that you should not run MBAM Pro with Windows Defender on 8.1? Just curious.

I'm with JohnBurns on this - and would love to know where "it is written" - specifically for Windows 8x.

If anything Defender-MalwareBytes seems a standard duo - based on friends and relatives.

(Or are you just looking for a reason not to pay for the PRO license? ; ) - ..I fully understand that.)

I think historically, the main reason you were not to run two competing "anti-virus" applications at the same time was for very practical reasons of reeeeally slow machines - often sporting 1GB or RAM or less and 1.x GHz single thread processors.

Also, many (...perhaps most?) of the problems with INSTALLATION of "anti-virus" software was due to rivalry related programmatic conflicts. Once they were installed, I've never once seen inter-app conflicts other than running slow. That's just my experience. We'd all be interested in [authoritative] corrections to our myths and taboos.

I run Malwarebytes Pro and NIS 2013 on Windows 8.1 with real-time protection turned ON and have never had a problem. Malwarebytes tests itself against other products to be sure there are no conflicts. It is not a standard "Anti-Virus" and uses other technics for detection. This has been stated numerous times on the Malwarebytes forum.

I am running malwarebytes pro on my 8.1 pc no problems at all. My main anti anything is Kaspersky 2013 Internet Suite; there is no clash, I also have Advanced system care ultimate and Win 8 manager, all pro versions, and nothing clashes at all.

Quite honestly, I only know what I have read when it comes to computer software. And based on that, it is my understanding that most users who know more that I do (and there are a lot of those) say that you won't necessarily have a problem when you run two firewalls at the same time. I believe that what most say is that you might have a problem because they sometimes conflict. I suppose it's another one of those cases where the answer depends on who you talk to. So if someone would ask me for a definite answer I would say that I just don't know for sure.

My first thought is that any malware app that runs on Windows 8 would be “smart” enough to absolutely resolve conflict with the Windows 8 firewall. Effectively, you would NOT be using two sw firewalls, even though the app has that feature - but what do I know?

Maybe two sw firewalls is like having your machine "Go to 11". Who wouldn't want that?
