    Malwarebytes does not have a Firewall in the free or Pro version. Windows Defender is an Anti-Virus system and does not have a Firewall either, although Windows does have a separate Firewall with its on control.

    Thanks, Jim - I was afraid we had slid off-track with this firewall conversation - at least that part is now clarified.

    I use Kaspersky 2013 Internet Suite that HAS a firewall, and a good one. On my laptop I have Microsoft Security Essentials (free) obviously that uses windows firewall, and (so far) its been 100%. Its also very clean and stays invisible not interfering with work.

    I've been running MalWareBytes Pro and CCleaner Pro on Windows 8.1 for awhile now, with the built-in Windows Defender turned on, with absolutely no issues at all...

    I have noticed that my version of Malwarebytes' Pro is not running on my Windows 8.1 machine and cannot locate the file to activate or turn it on using the search function. The only options related to Malwarebytes' are the "notifications" and "uninstall tool" for the program.

    @mickey12gauge

    I ran across something that might help.

    I run 8.1 with two logins: a User account (day to day) and an Admin account.

    From within my regular User account, if I right-click on the system tray Malwarebytes icon and “Exit” - say to try and allow a certain MS update – I see I'm not able to change the default settings back to launch the real-time app (nor will it auto-run on a restart.)

    You have to logout of User and login as Admin and then: [Start] “Malwarebytes Anti-malware”, [Protection] tab, and check the [Enable filesystem protection] and [Enable malicious website blocking] boxes. Then you're back to normal.

    Hope that helps.
