Solved Defender error 0x800705 after resuming from sleep

I recently installed Hyper V Server 2012 and am dual booting with Windows 8.1 pro.

When running 8.1 after resuming from sleep I get a message in Action Center saying Defender is not running and I can't start it. Error 800705b4 is received.

Strangely in services.msc it says the service is already running.

After restart it starts normally and full scan and Malwarebytes scan are clean. I've not installed any software recently and have never used any other anti-virus. Using other anti-virus seems to be the reason others have had this error message.

Any ideas? After resuming from sleep is it running or not?

error 0x800705 is an access denied error. So there's a permissions problem.Have you installed Hyper V under an administrator account ?

The service might be running but if defender indicates real time protection is off then it is actually useless. My best guess would be to check if you had any recent updates to defender recently (might have been automatic). If so then either use the last restore point or uninstall the update and reinstall it as admin.

I am dual booting Hyper V Server so it wasn't installed under any Win 8 account and I only have administrator account on both.

Funnily enough it hasn't happened for a few days. I've just checked and I've been getting my defender updates so perhaps it just fixed itself - that would be nice :)
