    Windows Defender

Recently I ran out of Norton Internet Security, and I don't feel like paying for one anymore, and I've been using Windows Defender that was already on my laptop, is it any good? I've heard bad and good things about it, or should I just get a free one like Avast/Avira/AVG.

My personal opinion is that Defender/Security Essentials does a fine job and is light on resources. A year or so ago I ran some tests for a particular virus that hit one of my clients and Security Essentials picked it up before Trend, McAfee, Norton, and AVG. By the same token I have cleaned up infected machines running all of the aforementioned AV including Security Essentials.

IMO, If your looking to go with a FREE AV soloution, I would go with Avast!

Pesronally, I would not go with Microsoft Security Essentials AV, I have been caught one too many times with my pants down using it, it's detection rate is worse than poor and even when it does detect something it cannot remove it making you resort to third party removal tools.
