As far as I know there isn't adequate Anti-Virus programs for Windows 8 / 8.1 yet. Everything I use seems to BSOD my Windows. So now I am down to Peer Block, Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. Is this enough for me? What do you guys recommend?

Comodo seemed to make my PC BSOD too.

Lots of people here, including me, use Defender along with MalwareBytes. I use MalwareBytes to run a scan on occasion, like once a week. I've had no problems.

FYI, I am running Avast 2014 on 8.1 (for two weeks now) and I haven't had any issues to date. More info here:

Update: I was actually running the RC3 version until it went GA on 10/15. Worked great throughout all stages.

I guess it is safe to say that you are OK until you are not OK and the same goes for me too! You'll just have to run with that combination and see if it works or try someone else's recommendation based on their experience. However, what works for one, may not work for all, because one's surfing and downloading habits play a big part in the overall protection scheme. Good luck.

I got tired of having issues with third party AV software vendors, and only use Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. Seems to work fine and no conflicts.

I am also running avast 2014 on 8.1, the only problem i come up with is that the store apps that you install does not work. You uninstall it then install it back and it gives you an error. All the apps installed on windows 8 works, but anything you installed on windows 8.1 wont work with avast turned on.

Stick with Windows Defender (native Win8 AV) and run MalWareBytes Pro and CCleaner. Don't add on other stuff, it's not necessary...

Collin, I recommend you to choose antivirus according to your system needs. If you think Windows Defender is best suitable for your system and it will adjust with windows 8.1, then you must go for it. Else, try out some other popular antivirus like Immunet 3.0, AVG, Avira, Bitdefender, Avast, Comodo etc.

For 8.1 is released not for so long, anti-virus programs need to be updated to support 8.1. IMO, windows defender and firewall is okay.

I am using Windows Defender along with Malwarebytes pro, seems to be working just fine, no system resource issues and no speed issues and until they come along with an antivirus that will not crash or mess with the Windows 8.1 settings I am going to keep it that way.

I made the mistake of installing Avast! which was SUPPOSED to be compatible with 8.1 as soon as I upgraded and it messed with the settings of the live tiles and would not let them update, needless to say I had to uninstall Avast! and do a system refresh, and all has been just honkey dorey since.

WOW, you must be the one in a million that they speak about.

Dude, do some research, McAfee is not good. I mean if you are comfortable using it then great, but I would do some reading and research on McAfee products.

My ISP offers McAfee free to all it's customers and I will not use it.

LOL..
I know. I haven't say that the McAfee is The One. I read a lot about McAfee and AVG, but it is going good right now, else NOD Internet security is one of my favorite.
As you people are saying Windows defender is much more compatible option.
so I am on it, but confused about realtime scanning , usb flash drives scanning etc.
