    32-bit or 64-bit

I have downloaded the latest version of Avast! Free for my 64-bit Laptop. Is there a way to find its architecture?

If you are referring to the latest edition (Avast Free 2014) which I just downloaded and installed, it appears to have installed as an x64 application on my x64 machine and it should install as an x32 application on an x32 machine so either way, you are covered.

Here's where I got mine from (just released yesterday):

Hope this information is helpful. Good luck.

Thank you for your input. My experience was exactly the same as yours. But there is still a doubt about the architecture because earlier to the installation, a 64-bit Avast A-V was already installed and therefore the setup application may have installed itself in the already existing sub-folder in Program Files.

Did you install the latest Avast on your machine for the first time and it was installed in the Program Files Folder or at least you installed it after uninstalling the earlier version?

And congratulations for 767 posts in just one month and earning 10 green and 1 orange dots in such a short time. This must be a record of sorts. On the Windows 7 forum it had taken me less than 4 months to collect over 2500 points and I thought that was great but you have beaten me hollow.

    Hi junglee,

So here was under what conditions, and in what sequence, I did my installations regarding Avast:

Did a clean install of Windows 8 RTM via ISO (last week).
Installed Avast 8.0.1497 via a clean install.
Discovered Avast 2014 went GA yesterday.
    Downloaded the above.
Downloaded ASWClear (to prep for a clean uninstall of Avast).
Uninstalled Avast 8.0.1497 via normal uninstaller.
Followed up with ASWClear cleanup in safe mode via auto-prompt from same.
Installed Avast 2014 GA as a (presumed) clean install.

Now, I did read the fine print (in the link provided previously) and Avast states the following:

It should be possible to install this version on top of your existing avast! installation (all settings should be preserved). Or you can use in-product updater.
However, since I observed multiple "shoulds" in the above, I took no chances and did a clean install. Hope this helps and thanks for your comments as well. Cheers and good luck.

PS - Wow, you should be very proud of your 2,500 contributions in such a short time as well. I hope you get a quick VIP consideration over here for your previous (and continuing) efforts over there. BTW, is your user name the same here as over there? If not, please find a way to convey your dual role as a (now) contributor to both forums so the Admins can take all things into consideration.

First my reply to your PS. On the Windows 7 Forums I use my real surname, which is "Wanchoo". "Junglee" in my mother-tongue means "the wild one" or "anyone living in a jungle". Now I have slowed down a lot due to old age, failing memory and other computer related activities on the SM and I am no longer very active on both the Forums. Failing memory made me check on the number of points in sevenforums and my points were not 2500 but around 2400 to which I have been able to add only a few more points since.

Thanks once more for your technical response. So the Avast Free A-V Setup file appears to be 64-bit that works in 32-bit machines also. I shall be able to use it on my old 32-bit Desktop with Windows 7 when the need arises.
