Brand new HP 500-056 box. No modifications made, but a few apps installed.

I haven't installed anything in the least unsavory or illegal. No pirated software.

Windows Defender detected HackTool:Win32/Keygen and said it may be a danger to my computer.

Hack and Keygen are both things that I'm aware could be connected to illegal software.

So, anybody know what this might be? I'm going to get rid of it, but I thought you guys and gals might know a bit more about this than I do. Especially any security folks out here.

To find out where the HackTool:Win32/Keygen is located. On start menu, type Windows Defender then run it. On the history tab, click on View details then you'll know where it is coming from.

It is up to you to apply any action needed.

WinRT tables and other PC metro apps are still actually run partially by Win32. That's the reason Microsoft wants to cover the desktop. Think about it, all computers are run by processes held on the computer, so no matter how hard they try, Desktop will be inevitable. Windows may end up on a blank...
