    3rd party firewall recommendations

Comodo seems to cause conflict in Windows 8, and that's what I've used since XP. Any recommendations?

I just use the built in Windows firewall and Windows Defender Anti Virus (what was called Microsoft Security Essentials) that comes with Windows 8. I use the same in Windows 7.

I'm talking about 3rd party firewalls. The build in one has little effect on anything from what I've seen. Of all the applications I've used, I've never had to make exceptions, even weird applications that Windows wouldn't see as trusted. I don't like that in a firewall.

In what way? I've used both Comodo Firewall V5.12 and V6.2 on Windows 8 without any problems. Are you using Windows 8 or 8.1?

I agree with Fireberd. And, if you throw a hardware router (w/firewall protection) in between your PC and the modem, a 3rd party software firewall only serves to waste resources and provides no additional protection.

I tried Online Armor and Private Firewall and found Online Armor to be easier to use.
    Both are free.

Moyeamedia Shield Firewall, which I used for years. Comodo I tried ever, but little puzzle.

Third party software firewalls still have their place, for the right kind of user. For advanced, well-informed users (not intending to be snarky), is a third party software firewall still a good idea? Or can we rely on Windows 8's own firewall in combination with anti-virus software? I like...
