Hi vrosa,

Looks interesting. Are you using it on any one of your machines (Win 8.0 or 8.1)?

Thanks,

Hi SIW2,

Thanks for the link but I would really like some real world feedback before I dump Avast 8 (which doesn't work on 8.1) and switch to something else because they all sound good on paper; yes? Right now, I'm just running with Windows Defender (or whatever they call it now) on my test laptop; however, I do prefer a 3rd party AV solution but I would really like to know that it works before I install it.

Thanks again,

JustATest

I haven't tried it. As far as I know, it was Kaspersky, now seems to be avira.

Thanks; maybe I'll wait a bit and see if anyone chimes in with real world experience; however, my laptop is just a test machine, and since I am the curious sort, I might give it a whirl in a few days or so.

Thanks again to vrosa and SIW2.

OK, so it was curiosity that killed the cat; yes? Anyway, I downloaded and installed Baidu on my test rig and here are a few of my initial observations:

PROs:
Easy install w/simple interface and few options
Very light-weight on resources
Very fast on-demand scanning
Nice looking non-animated icon in taskbar

Cons:
I have no idea what Baidu is doing and/or whether it is working or not (similar to Bit Defender Free)
There is no real-time scanning information or reports available (only previous on-demand scan reports)
Has an option to turn on the Avira engine. Why? Isn't the Baidu engine good enough?
So I turned on Avira engine and I have no idea what that engine is doing either.
The browser protection option is a farce; in that, it only changes your homepage to the Baidu homepage.

This AV program looks like it has potential; however, at this early stage of development, I don't feel I can trust it because I have no way of telling exactly what it has done (or what it is currently doing) in the real-time protection mode. Their support forum is primarily a Chinese support forum so I can't read 95% of the issues and resolutions. This might be a great find if someone is willing to place their full trust in this product.

OK, I just completed all testing of this AV program and I have found that it is detecting a (false-positive) Trojan on every USB drive that contains an autorun.inf file. IMHO, this AV program is not ready for prime-time. End testing.

It seems to be working fine here - hard to tell how good it is at detecting.

Will keep using it anyway. Baidu is a giant, second only to google. I think they got teed off when 360 did a search engine.

Hi SIW2,

I'm glad to hear that someone else is doing some testing as well so good luck.

It's running flawlessly on Windows 8.1, and it's not memory hungry !

Hi vrosa,

Thanks for the additional testing but how do you know that it is actually protecting your PC in real-time? I can see that it is running in task manager but is there anywhere one can look to see any real time results? I'm assuming the scan information you have posted is for on-demand scanning; yes? Now, as I stated in my original analysis, it looked promising but I just couldn't trust it 100% until I can see some evidence of real-time protection (ie, logs, reports, etc). Thanks for the update.

Hi vrosa,

That is just a check box indicating that real time protection is active; however, I thank you for the response and I look forward to using it at some time in the future after it has been out there for a while.

Best regards,
