I've been successful in kicking that in the arse on XP/Vista/7 but 8 is a whole new dog. You have to "Enable Safe Mode" - It is in the Advanced Troubleshooting section, you have to activate it. I've never had to boot to it, so far.

Alternately, you can boot using Hiren's Boot Disk and Mini XP and you can get into the drive and manually remove it - If ya know where to look. I can't recall where it was. Probably the best way to do it is through Command prompt from an install disk, then you can pull up MSconfig and see if there is an entry that can be removed- If the task manager can be pulled up. Not sure it if will, I think it does, but I may be mistaken - It's just something to try.

Cottonball - I like that Hitman solution, looks like it may be viable. I'll try that next time I need to do this.

In win98 you used to be able to just hold down the (CTRL) key while booting to get windows boot options, then they went to the whack-a-mole method where you have to beat-the-clock and hit F8 before your time is up!

Why would they remove that simple feature????

Without safemode i dont think windows would have survived as an OS, its the most practical way of dealing with problems...
