Which Anti Virus Should I Use To Protect Windows 8 ?

    Narayan,

Don't assume that "free=bad" and "expensive/paid=good" when it comes to AV products. I test and evaluate AV for a major auto manufacturer and although we use Symantec Endpoint Protection, I use the built-in Microsoft AV in Win8, as well as CCleaner and MalWareBytes, which I paid for. Good luck!

For me only, I use Kaspersky Pure. I did a lot of reading on Anti-Virus programs a few years back. They said Kaspersky was the best at that time. Lots have changed since then but I do not wish to try my luck with another AV program.
I feel pretty much to each his own.

I am using Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 that came as free download with my PC purchase from Costco. Have not had a problem and seems to not have slowed down my PC.

It doesn't matter if you are connected 24/7 or not. I also use the Free Avast. And if the free version works for everyone, it should work for you as well. And if you are really that paranoid about viruses, Avast can be upgraded to premium version with more security features. Cheers!

Apparently, according to some comparative testing done recently, Bitdefender is the best.

    Yeah I totally agree.
In some cases, some of these antivirus program are so difficult to work around with it and sometimes gives you more problem within your own system like when you are installing other stuffs or accessing network, etc. For large corporation using multiple machines with sensitive data, it is ok to go the "Best" way. But for personal and home use, personally I just go the simplest and free way.

Just turn on the firewall, which it also provides. If your concern is security connected to the internet, then the firewall is just as important as the anti-virus.

To anyone still looking into what AV I use Avast free and Avast Internet Security and the are almost identical! the only differance is the pad has a safe virtual machine for you to shop in and that's about it!

I trust I picked up no bugs.
I use Defender which was MSE and the Win 8 native firewall behind my router - WPA-2.

It seems MS/Windows is doing a pretty good job.
