IMHO, Chrome is the most easily infected browser, specifically with browser hijacks, add-ons and malware. Whenever I have had a browser get hijacked, it's been Chrome. I'll be testing IE 10 this weekend...
you got that right! I have had more clients infected when they use Chrome, less with Firefox and Ie 9
Hi guys
What on EARTH are you doing (or the clients) to get infected.
I've been using Windows since Windows/286 (anybody remember that far back) and in my whole time I have NEVER had a computer virus -- and in my "shadier past" I have been known to have used some torrent sites.
Perhaps someone should post a website that we can use to TEST some of these so called infections.
With the advent of a decent built in protection in Windows 8 (FOR HOME COMPUTERS -- Corporates are another issue entirely) a load of 3rd party AV software isn't necessary anymore -- the security is now a part of the KERNEL so even if you have a "Leaky browser" the OS should capture the infection.
I sometimes suspect that a load of AV posts are either initiated by AV developers themselves to boost their market or just a load of old Scare mongering.
99.99% of Computer infection (again for HOME users) is usually not computer related at all -- but simply a USER problem on giving too much data away.
You can see examples every day in normal life where this happens.
For example I have an account with a well knwon UK Bank which we popularly call "Sharkleys". Well as I travel a lot a payment took longer to arrive than it should have done so when some direct debits were due I got the inevitable annoying phone calls usually at around 19.00 local time -- "Can I speak to Mr .......". Soi I said who's calling. They say "Sharkleys Bank".
Well I answer " This could be a load of Bovine Scatology -- anybody can say --I'm Sharkleys Bank -- so please give me YOUR name. DIRECT number and name DIRECT NUMBER of your BOSS so I can check ---and I want the DIRECT numbers -- not Call center or other generic numbers".
Voice at other end says -- Can't do that --against Data protection acts -- so I say --so you expect ME to supply confidential / personal data over the phone without you proving to me that you are either who you say you are or have reasonable grounds for getting this data.
Phone at other end disconnects.
Now I'll bet 99% of people would have answered the Banks security questions etc etc without batting an eyelid as to who was really on the other end.
This is how stuff gets hacked into etc etc these days --it's not usually done by infecting target computers - there's no money in that --the name of the game is Identity theft, fraud, etc etc and it's people THEMSELVES who are to blame mostly.
I'll bet I could probably log on to Facebook and access loads of data which people have put out about themselves --whereas if this data was hacked into from other sources would merit some serious jail time.
If only people were taught how to use the Internet responsibly rather than wasting all this time with essentially useless AV packages I'm sure we would all be better off.
Cheers
