Hi whs, how have you been? Thanks for your input.

As you can see in my previous post, I'm gonna go with Windows Defender and Malwarebytes Pro. The last thing I need to do is cancel the Mcafee auto renew, which I will use to pay for WBAM and have some money leftover

I think you are making the right moves. Just make sure you remove McAfee with their removal tool. How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee products using the Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR)

Yes, that's the tool I used after performing the normal uninstall from the control panel. It worked very well.

Good, then you are OK. Because if you only used the Windows uninstaller, you get all kinds of problems.

If you didn't say this then I was going to!

I've had to rip it out by the guts a bunch of times just to get people connected to the internet.

Yep Chev, that's what I was going to post about. McAfee and Norton are notorious for blocking all internet connectivity completely till uninstalled.

Have been there too many times and won't install either on any system, nor do i recommend either.
Plus, it is far too often that viruses know how to kill Norton and McAfee both and infect your system anyway.

I also recommend people stay far away from AVG.

Excellent point. We had 6 systems heavily infected whilst free AVG was on the guard. But with Norton (NIS) I never had a problem. I still trust NIS more than any of the others.

Every single infected PC I've worked on since November (>100) have had McAfee on them and it did nothing to stop the infections...

That is why I never recommend it either. Also it is quite complicated to use for the average user

McAfee LiveSafe ? in System Security
Hey all, I was wondering what you all think of the McAfee LiveSafe suite... I have like 10 computers, so the $79.99/year fee for unlimited licenses is really appealing.
