    Virus or Network admin?

Hey guys, first time in the forums but i have used this forum to solve plenty of issues and thought it was about time i register. Anyway, i am having an issue. I work for my community college as a part time helpdesk technician and am using Windows 8 which for the most part is a pretty fun operating system. But my issue started 2 days ago, i was in the middle of working on an excel spread sheet with all my work open (tickets and email accounts) and all of a sudden a purple bar comes to the foreground of my screen saying "You have been kicked off!" and below that it said "FAIL! You have been hacked! You will be restarted shortly!" At first i thought it was a joke from one of my supervisors and proceeded to work but about 10 seconds after i closed the obnoxious message my machine restarted. when i was rebooted and logged in i continued to work and the issue happened again after about 30 minutes of working! This issue continued for 2 days, today is day 3 and i have yet to run into the issue. I asked my supervisors about the issue and they know nothing of the issue and think it may be a virus but i have never seen a virus like this before.

Any thoughts guys? Thanks in advance for all your help!

Your Excel Spreadsheet may be infected with some form of Macro.
Here is info about Macro in Excel: About macros in Excel - Excel - Office.com
There's an option to disable Macro in the spreadsheet, try that to see if it fix the problem.

I checked the Macros as you suggested. They are disabled by default. I haven't had the issue yet today but i also have not been working on the excel document today either. I think you're on the right track suspecting the excel document but I am not sure how the two would be related.

Macros can be inserted into Excel spreadsheet through back door (ie. some executable software can open it, insert the code then exit) and attached to the spread sheet as Visual Basic Code and depending on how the code is instructed what to do then anything can happen.

How would i find any malicious code attached to the document? Scan it with Defender?

Yes, for the start...make sure you update the database definition first. You might even have to use a third party anti virus software.
In addition, turn off autorun feature.

Run full system scan and if still get that bar then install any other AV program, may be your AV program is unable to detect the problem and also.
