Solved Windows Defender Updates

I have windows update set to just check for updates and let know if any are available. Yet each time I check for updates there always is one for Windows Defender though I have received no notification. Does Defender update itself like, as I recall, Windows Security Essentials did under Win 7?

I am afraid you need to install the updates for Defender manually if you haven't enabled Automatic Updates. The reason, I think that Defender is built within the OS and MSE was installed separately in Windows 7.

You can also set up a task in Task Scheduler for automatic definition updates to Windows Defender if you don't use automatic updating in windows update.

There is somewhere here that explains how to do it...

Thank you. I have 'googled' and 'binged' this thing to death and can find no way to do it. It's probably my technique.
