    how to disable java

I have windows 8 installed. There is now a lot of talk about java. I'm not even sure if I have it. How can I tell if I do have it and if so, how to disable it? Thank you

I applied the Java update (Oracle 7.R.11) on my main PC last night (I skipped DEV and QA and went right to Prod)! Do we have any substantiated reports of a system being exploited or is this just hype and hyperbole? Thanks!

I applied it also but I recommended my clients to use Firefox which disables java se and also I use no scripts add on. This addon gives you the option to allow java for a particular web page or not

(DHS's) US Computer Emergency Response Team (US-CERT) is still urging users to disable Java in their browsers. A note from US-CERT said, "This and previous Java vulnerabilities have been widely targeted by attackers, and new Java vulnerabilities are likely to be discovered," and recommends that users disable Java "until adequate updates are available."

Problem is many bank websites use java so for these you might not have a choice to enable it. Too bad web masters cannot find a secure substitute for java that works the same way
