Ok so now this is weird. I did a refresh of Windows 8 (for other reasons) and didn't install Kaspersky. The Java plugin worked the first day but now the spinner just keeps spinning endlessly Verify Java Version

Try to disable Kaspersky and install any other good AV program like Avast, Immunet, Nod32 etc. To check whether there is problem with Kaspersky or JRE has a bug. If you would be able to run JRE plugin in the browser then change your AV program permanently.

Java later worked after that post of mine. I again installed Kaspersky and am currently trying out the solution by famdekk. Will update on the progress.

Download the latest Java installer from the official download page (if running 64 bit download both 32 and 64 bit) and install Java. Go to the official 'Test Java' page. Run the applet and it should give you your current Java information (JRE 1.7 update 11 or something like that). If this doesn't work (it should but just in case it doesn't), go back the applications list in KIS > rightclick any .exe in the Oracle program groups mentioned above > click 'Application rules' > go to the 'Exceptions' tab > check 'Do not scan network activity'. Click OK and do this for all those programs. Enjoy!
I did what you said and Java ran flawlessly thereafter. I installed JDK and it conked off again LOL. I went to Kaspersky settings and added the exception for network activity, restarted Firefox and now Java works!

    Thanks a million

EDIT: I installed the Android SDK and JRE doesn't work in the browser again. I added exceptions to everything under Oracle America

The problem has popped up again after installing Android SDK Tools. Any ideas anyone?

OK, so I've had this game for years and years. The application Online.exe is required to start Game.exe and yet both are getting a UAC prompt, and I think this is causing the game to stop working before it can initialize. Periodically, I can get through this by accepting UAC and everything...
