Unable to install AVG - cannot delete AVG registry key

Hi I'm new to Windows 8 and trying to install AVG free software. By mistake I downloaded 64bit version and started the installation process until I realised it was the wrong verson. When I tried to download the 32bit version it failed to install because it did not have permission to delete the old registry keys created by my first attempt, despite being the administrator. I've tried to sort out permission to delete system files but struggling and anyway I don't like going into the registry for fear of doing something disastrous. How do I get AVG installed or for that matter changing any system folders/files

Thanks in advance for any help offered

Thanks that worked. Although with Windows 8 I don't a know how to get to the start menu to run services.msc. I simply downloaded the AVG remover tool and it worked a treat.

Much obliged. No doubt I will be back to this forum with other Windows 8 idiosyncracies.
