Solved Windows Defender, Ok....Firewall?

So i'm guessing windows defender is the best thing for antivirus/spyware for my windows 8 computer?

Also can it scan certain files/folders/zips/rars? etc?

also let's say i download a program/file thats a virus does it get it instantly and remove it?

also wheres the firewall?
