Solved Disable "permissions" in rtm...???

Just installed rtm, after running rp since June. Now, I can a lot of pop ups concerning permissions. Pretty damn stupid of microturd to tell me I don't have permission to do something on my own damn machine, but it is keeping in line with there overall arrogance.

So, how do I defeat this nonsense. I permanent fix would be greatly appreciated.

Disable UAC. Set the EnableLUA registry key to 0. the slider is not enough.

Store apps...??? Never gonna use 'em. I operate entirely in the desktop environment.

When UAC is set to "Never Notify" it doesn't work. I still get pop up window saying access is denied. And the choices: Continue, Skip or Cancel.

This appears to be a fault in the system. How can I turn off UAC completely? I dont' use Windows apps so this is not relevant.

You could use the REG download in step 2 of OPTION TWO in the tutorial below for Windows 7 to completely disable UAC in Windows 8. Do note the warning above about doing this though.

Thanks for input Shawn. I tried that regedit download but it made no difference. I also tried the regedit to turn it off totally, but got the same result.

An example of what happens is if I edit the name of a folder in the Start Menu found in Program Data, then it says I need administrative permission. When I right click on the name of the folder to rename it, the Admin icon is shown in the rename option.

I'm using W8 Pro OEM on DVD which I purchased and installed yesterday. I've downloaded all Windows updates.

Ah, ok. You will not be able to make changes to a system folder with applying permission first unless you are logged into the built-in "elevated" Administrator account, or elevate all administrators. It was the same way in Windows 7.

Thanks for all the input Shawn. I tried the elevated commands suggested in the links above, but it still asked for permission. So I decided to edit the registry and set the EnableLUA key value to zero following the instructions on post #1 here, and that fixed it. If and when I need to use apps will reset it to 1. Is there a regedit download to set this key value to zero, and back to one? Or could I do it by exporting and saving the respective keys with 0 and 1 values?

Forgot to mention I'm using the hack Ex7ForW8 to restore the W7 Orb Start Menu, which requires the W7 installation disc to be put into optical drive during installation, and it captures files from W7. In effect it means you're using Explorer 7 on the desktop and "Metro" start screen is not available in this mode. You can use a toggle switch to return to Explorer 8 and "Metro". However, I will probably never, or very seldom use original W8 start screen.

Exporting the registry key would be the easiest way to toggle it back and forth if you like. The tutorial above with the REG files for Windows 7 can do this for you as well.

I don't really understand it, but I tried that link which goes to Windows7Forums, and used the options you suggested. I noticed those regedits did change the slide controller on UAC in: Control Panel > Action Center > Change UAC Settings. But I never checked the registry, I just tried it out in practice to make name changes and kept getting the warnings. But when I manually changed the value in registry it worked.

UPDATE: Apologies Shawn, my bad. I never read the very last few steps where it said the PC had to be rebooted to apply the registry changes. Did that and it worked fine.

Odd, but as long as you got it working.

Don't know if you saw my update in my last post above yours? The problem was I didn't reboot after doing the regedit from your download. Missed reading the last two steps of your tutorial and just ran the downloaded regedit files. So Oooooopps! All my fault! Tutorial works fine. Apologies!

As a point of interest, UAC control ran seamless in W7 Ult Retail. I kept it set to zero permanently, and it never had a problem and no need to adjust registry key. Not so in W8 in Pro OEM version. Maybe will be fixed in MS update, or maybe deliberately set so can't totally switch off to keep apps active?
