Hi I installed Windows 8 on my laptop and got the audio drivers installed all fine and dandy... Except that's what Windows says.

The driver says it is working properly and when I use the sound (Like playing something on Itunes) windows does the animation in the sound mixer like it is working but there is no sound.

Acer Aspire 5315
Realtek High Definition Audio
Windows 8 RP (x86)

Any help appreciated.

I have an Acer T690. Although a PC, it's similar so far as brand and Intel made MOBO.

Your system specs on the Acer site states that your Sound Subsystem is an Audio system with built-in speakers - SoundBlaster Pro and MS-Sound compatible. Acer Support: Aspire 5315 Series Specifications

Was it working with prior OS? If so, what OS? Do you know if it has a SoundBlaster card?

The Realtek High Definition Audio may not work on your system. Did you install that or was it installed during 8 install?

Try and update the driver in Device Manager. Check the lQQk online. If that doesn't work, you may wanna try to uninstall the Realtek driver and get the SoundBlaster driver or one from M$.

I tried all of the above except for the soundblaster drivers(because I know I don't have soundblaster) and none of it appeared to work... I was up until midnight and even did a system refresh.... nothing....

I hibernated my machine to go to bed and started working on it again about 10 minutes ago and somehow I have sound...

I honestly don't know how (if I did I'd tell).....

Thanks for the reply anyways..

That's good! I love it when a bug works itself out. Like a noise in my car. Before I find the time to see what it is, it goes away.

Enjoy your sound.

Well.... Installed video drivers and no sound again... hibernate computer, wake it up, sound again...

Is there a process that controls sound I should restart (other than windows audio service, I tried that)

No process. Shouldn't have to do anything. That's weird. I don't think I've ever come across this before. What would a new video driver have to do with it?!

Just after hibernation? When you restart, no sound? Was it working with prior OS? If so, what OS?

i had Windows 7 64bit (installed x86 windows 8 because I was running slow due to lack of ram.)

I had Windows 8 RP on this machine awhile ago and it worked perfectly fine... I'm not sure why this is so different...

and here's how it works:

I boot my computer
No sound
I Hibernate my machine
turn it on from hibernation
i have sound...

This has got me stumped. Any yellow exclamation points in Device manager anywhere? Is the modem working? Check that in Device Manager while there. I know that may sound weird, but that affects sound via hardware.

In the mean time, I'll run this by some friends to see what they think.

I'm thinking of doing a clean install (Every time I install Win8 I get a different outcome)
I'll let you know how that goes... I won't do that until Thursday or Friday because of work.

I found out it is just a driver problem... Realtek hasn't released the drivers for Windows 8 so Win8 is using the Microsoft drivers which aren't always the best. Hibernating wasn't a problem for me because that's basically what hybrid shutdown was. So as long as I didn't restart I don't have to hibernate and log back in.

Hi Eve.
Win 8 RP does have a problem here and there. I means different driver problem on different machine. My ASUS has problem with LAN driver, but it was fixed when installing Windows 8 RTM.
You may want to instal the RTM Version as it handles Win 7 drivers driver more friendly.

I presume that you already have the latest driver from Acer website. I found there are some workarounds to try, it might work but not always though. One of it is installing the driver in compatibility mode.

You also may want to check the physical sound port. The sound port has contact sensor if any audio jack is plugged or unplug. The driver software keep monitoring it to automatically decide the internal or external speaker to use with, as long as the system is on. it might get dusty. Try plug and unplug any audio jack several times to see if it responds.

Only my two cents. But hope it helps.

Kevin.

I would install the RTM but the only one available to me is the beta and that times out after 90 days. I don't have a dev. account anywhere (trust me if I did, I would have it by now :p)

I thank you for your help, and I'll look into finding a way of getting the RTM somehow...

Try the Realtek Vista_Win7_R263. It is several versions ago. I run it in Vista compatibility mode. It is still, for me, the only 100% reliable driver set from realtek. I used it through the Windows 8 public releases, and now in the RTM. I recently tried the Realtek drivers, written for Win 8. They failed to re initiate after sleep.so I went back to the above
