Audacity and SoundTap won't recognise any of my recording devices?

However under Recording Devices, both my microphone drivers are recognised as making sound.

Please help

I was forced to give up my beloved Audacity which I had used for years, after moving from WFW311-W95-98SE over to Windows 7 [and I never found out why]! Now, there are free and fee alternatives out there, I went with Cyberlink's WaveEditor Express and later with Premium. I'm certainly glad I did! WE definitely does what I need it to do: allow full editing, and, I discovered, one can even "convert" a practice MP3 [which had right-speaker music and left-speaker vocals] into a mono-music only or mono-voice only. I do not know what SoundTap is.

Audacity wants to see the "Stereo Mix". Enable it and make it the default recording device.

Audacity is very popular, not sure what RolandJS's problems were. I have a recording studio so I use my recording program (Sonar) for recording and use Goldwave (a shareware audio editor) for audio editing.

"...not sure what RolandJS's problems were..." fireberd; that's what I posted earlier, I never found out why my Audacity quit working.
