hello
I have Bose speakers with my Dell XPS 8300 and run Win 10 Pro.
I have noticed that since I got my speakers a couple of years ago, when I plug them into the PC or nudge the wire to the port I get a buzz or hum as though the card or the speaker is not grounded. I have run diagnostics but nothing shows up.
It only occurs when I touch the wire to the port or plug or unplug it. Once seated it is OK.
TY for your opinion
Peter
P.S. I just noticed that I am in the Win 8 not 10 forum and am sorry for the error.

Unless I misunderstood your post, it seems that you have found the solution, "Once seated it is OK." To me that implies that you have found that when the plug is properly inserted and seated, the ground does it's job and your issue is solved. Am I misunderstanding what you said?

Retired in 2015 after working in the tech industry for 41 years. First 10 years as a Technician, the rest as a programmer/software engineer. After 1 year of retirement, I was bored so went back to work as a Robotic Process Automation Consultant. Retired for 3rd (and final) time in 2019.
I think you have it right. If I ever hold the tip of the wire that goes into the port or touch anything with it, it makes that noise until and unless I seat it within the port.
I assume you are implying that is normal.
Thank you for your advice
