Are the Realtek drivers you installed for 8.1? There are many cases where Win 7 or Win 8 drivers won't work and only Win 8.1 certified drivers will work (or work properly).

I downloaded Realtek HD Audio drivers on this site. I think it should work for 8.1 though.Click image for larger version

Yes, that is the correct driver.

Uninstall the Realtek and drivers, in the Device Manager. Restart the PC and Windows should install the generic High Definition Audio Device (Drivers). Then check the Sound Panel/Playback section. The "Speakers" should be set as default audio playback device. Does sound now play?

Hi, So I've been running Windows 8.1 for a long time now without fault but now for some reason Windows thinks I still have headphones plugged in the front audio jack. This is causing sound to always come through the "headphones" even when they are not plugged in. I've solved it temporarily by...
The title pretty much says it all. I realize there are other threads out there similar to this, but their solutions either didn't work for me, or the problem wasn't quite the same. My issue is as follows: When I plug my headphones into my laptop (hp dv7t 6c000 quad) audio plays through both the...
