Hello everyone!

I got my new headphones today, but the sound isn't working. I plugged them into the audio jacks, and realtek audio manager recognized them and said that an audio device has been plugged in. The mic is working fine, its just the headphones that don't work.

The headphones aren't muted, "Realtek digital output" is set as the default device (I'm not sure if that's the headphones, my old headphones broke and I haven't had any for a few months now so I don't remember what it was like before). I've tried inserting them into the audio jacks on the back, but that doesn't work either.

Any suggestions?

I'm on Windows 8.1 64 bit if that matters.

Huh, I seem to have fixed it myself. I'll post the answer here just in case anyone is as clueless as me!

I was going through all the devices listed under "playback devices". I right clicked on all and looked at the "jack information" section. I found out the Realtek HD Audio 2nd output was the one that was connected to the front audio jack.

When I connected my headphones to the audio jack, when the Realtek audio manager asks you what type of device it is, I had to click "Headphones" instead of "Line In" like I did with my previous headset.

Then you go into playback devices and set the Reaktek HD Audio 2nd output as your default device. If you're using a program like Skype you might have to go into audio settings in the program and change it there as well.

If you don't have the Realtek HD audio 2nd output in your playback devices: Open the Realtek audio manager, and at the top by the close/minimize button click the settings button. Go into options, and tick "Make front and rear output devices play two different audio streams simultaneously".
