    Audio jack/mic registering problems

My computer's front audio jacks do not work because they are not and can not be plugged into the the motherboard. However, my rear audio jacks do work. I recently bought a headset with a built in mic that had cables long enough to reach the back of my tower. Whenever I plugged them in, they were only recognized as a speaker system, not as a microphone. Whenever I did some digging into my computer's settings, I found that it only recognizes microphones if they are plugged into the front audio jack. This won't work seeing as my front audio jack is unusable. Is there a way around this or a way to switch the mic's properties to make it able to work from the rear audio jacks? I am certain this is the problem, the mic works on other computers and functions perfectly.

That is not how it is supposed to work and no other PC that I've seen works that way. If you have both the GREEN and PINK jacks on the rear, that is for Speakers (or a headset) and a computer microphone.

There is some other problem, other than the fact you do not have the front panel jacks.

Please provide the PC specs. We can't really help you without it.

    Custom Build:
    Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P Motherboard
    Sapphire Vapor-X R9 270X 2G 2DVI GPU
AMD FX 6300 6 Core CPU

    The headphones in question are
Forestfish G4000 3.5mm Stereo Gaming Headset LED Lighting
Amazon page: Amazon.com: Forestfish(TM) G4000 3.5mm Stereo Gaming Headset LED Lighting Over Ear Headphone Headband with Mic Volume Control Noise Cancelling for PC Computer Game (Black + Blue): Cell Phones & Accessories
They have 3 cables on them. One is the usb that powers the headset. The other two are the line in jack and the mic jack.
I plugged the red (mic) jack into the red jack on the rear panel and the green (line in) into the green.

What is the make/model of the case?

First thing, you need to test the headset/mic combination on a different PC to verify if the mic works OK. Could be you are chasing a problem in the PC when its the mic in the headset.

However, if the mic works OK on a different PC then you can go back to troubleshooting the PC.

Please post a screenshot of the Device Manager, Sound Section, the Sound, Recording section.

The only thing I see is the Rear Pink jack is listed as a "Line In" instead of Microphone. That is why it does not work - A Line In port is just a two channel (stereo) input. A Mic input has the mic audio and +5VDC on the "ring" part of the jack as computer Mic's need the +5VDC to work.

There is nothing in the Realtek HD Manager (at least in mine) to reassign the mic jack to a Line In jack.

Try recycling the Realtek sound. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the Realtek entry to highlight it and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. Then check the Recording Panel to see if the Pink jack has been assigned to Mic.

Hi, I have a problem with my front audio jack. The cause of this problem may or may not be the DAW reaper. I set my front headphone jack on my laptop as reapers input and the speakers on the laptop as its output. This did not work so I uninstalled the program. I tried to use my headphones but there...

My Dad used to use the laptop that me and my Mom share, and he did something to the settings on the computer (I don't know what, or else I would have fixed it myself.) which allow you to use a USB mic, and he disabled the microphone jack on the computer. I really want to find out how to change...
