    Volume booster???

I just bought my first laptop/notebook (ASUS UX305) and my phone has better volume.
I installed a free version of DFX Souind Booster which does what I want it to do but it's ugliness sits on the desktop like a discarded potbelly stove.
Any other unobtrusive free boosters out there?

Since it's your first Notebook/Laptop please be aware that there's at least 2 volume controls, one is the hardware key combinations of Fn plus another key, usually one of the F keys, plus the Windows control. I usually set the hardware at full volume then use the OS volume control. For Desktop computers some keyboards will include a volume control, usually called Multi-Media keyboards. The main thing is that both functions have to be dealt with. And I have seen Notebooks not have sufficient volume and can change it by plugging in a set of speakers such as used on Desktops, or use a Headset. The headset is quite logical considering the portability of Notebooks and where they may be used.

    Thanks berton.
Got all the fn and OS tools cranked and while it is ok, I would like a bit more volume.
Course it doesn't help that my ears have been subjected to decades of Hendrix, chainsaws, D8 Cats and wives.

The DFX boosts the volume about 50% and that's nice but I could live without the app. staring me in the face all the time.

Laptops, generally, have poor sound systems. The small speakers can't really "crank it up" and boosting can just cause them to distort.

Many PC's have sound enhancements and "loudness" is one of them that can make it sound like its louder. Loudness sort of acts like a compressor and increases the volume level of softer sounds up to a higher level. I have a recording studio and compression is one thing that I use, many times, to add balls to a mix.

    Thank you too, firebrand.
I understand the "why" but still think it could be better. I also do have buds for private listening. There are a few times a day when I just need a minute or so of upped volume for an audio clip and don't want to be dragging out the buds all the time.
    BTW, I had to look up R. O. P. E.
    Sounds like a good gig.
At first I thought maybe it was a reference to why I need more volume... Really Old People Ears

Maybe you should have looked at the HP's that have Beats Audio enhancements for audio. There are also some that have SoundBlaster audio enhancements that are similar to the Beats. I have a Lenovo with Dolby but it really doesn't do much for it.
