    Hi,

From where did you download the "motherboard_driver_audio_realtek_azalia-ati"? I only found on suspicious looking sites...

    Thanks.

Well I managed to solve the problem thanks to Steyr's link to the thread that Bart666 posts a solution.

If anybody else is having issues I will reiterate the precise steps I followed to solve the problem:

It appears, for whatever reason, the latest version(s) of catalyst drivers will not install the necessary HDMI audio driver for the 7770 graphics card. Whether or not this relates to my particular model of card and/or OS version (Windows 8 64-bit Release Preview), I don't know.

In order to get the device working correctly (and obtain full 5.1 channel audio as a result) was to obtain the Hardware ID which can be done by the following:

Start -> Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers -> *audio device* -right-click, Properties -> Details Tab -> Select 'Hardware Ids' from the 'Property' drop-down menu -> right-click 'Value' and select copy

Paste this into Google to (hopefully) bring up drivers that specifically mention compatibility with the designated audio device, install and hope for the best.

As it happens, it was version 11.4 Catalyst drivers that did the trick for me. I was able to do a custom install and select just the AMD HDMI Audio Device driver, which, upon restarting was fully functional.

I have a Geforce 240 and use Windows 8 retail. Even though Windows 8 installed the Nvidia video drivers, it did not install the Nvidia HDMI audio drivers. Installing the latest drivers from Nvidia fixed this problem for me. I did not need to change any other settings. Once the Nvidia HDMI audio driver was installed, it asked to reboot, after the reboot my 5.1 channel setup is working.

Me too. As soon as I installed Win 8 retail, my problem went away. Sorry for not posting this earlier to help others as the post above.

I've just been having the same problem with only 2 channels appearing on my AMD HDMI device. The problem was being caused by my Onkyo receiver. I had HDMI passthrough enabled on the receiver. If I turned the receiver off before the TV, the PC only saw a 2 channel device (the TV) which is why the 7.1 option was missing. As soon as I disabled HDMI passthrough the 5.1 & 7.1 surround options appeared in the speaker setup.

Now 5.1 is selectable from the speakers under HDMI audio and everything is working fine:

Im still having issues can u possible help? it still wont show 5.1 at all
