    Windows 8.1 Headphone Jack

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop ( Dell Inspiron 15, 15.6 HD Backlit Display, Intel Celeron Dual Core, N2830 Processor, 4GB Memory, 500GB Hard Drive, Windows 8.1, No Optical Drive: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories ), and my problem is that when i talk to my friends over 'Skype' or 'Teamspeak' my microphone from my laptop is used and not my earphones, i can hear through my earphones but cant speak (and yes my earphones do have a microphone ). The laptop microphone is very bad, when speaking it sounds like your voice is stuttering. i have checked my connected devices and cant seem to find anything, the only devices listed are - Click image for larger version
I Need help on changing my laptop microphone to my earphone microphone.
    Thanks.

What earphones do you have? Also, can you provide the exact "3000" series model? I want to check your system on the Dell site but need the exact model number. There are many different 3000 series models.

By the way, Stereo Mix normally is set as the Default Recording Device. Then whatever input device is used it will be heard. Also, if you want to record audio from the Internet you need the Stereo Mix.

I want to just use my microphone to talk to others.
    Series - 3531
and the headphones/earphones im using are Gioteck HC2.

[ UPDATE - my microphone is apparently owkay on skype, but on teamspeak it sounds like a child is turning the sound up and down on a speaker. ]

According to the Dell documentation this only has a "headset port". There is nothing about using an external microphone. If you wanted to use a separate microphone you need a headset/mic that is USB connected.

By the way that PS/4 type connector would not work even if you had a mic jack. You would need an adapter for that to work in a PC.

This seems to be a pretty common problem. I'm working on my friends computer, because his headphone jack isn't working. He has an Acer Aspire M, with a third-gen i5, 6GB DDR3, Windows 8 64bit, and a Realtek card. He had been using headphones in the side jack, and they were working fine, but...
