I am having some problems with my laptops audio. The audio always cuts off after a while and doesn't work until I restart the PC. I have installed the newest drivers and also rolled back to the older drivers, I have tried disabling and enabling the sound card nothing seems to be working. After I restart then it works for sometime but after that it stops and none of the playback devices would give out audio . Please help.

Audio driver details:

IDT high definition audio codec
version : 6.3.9600.16384

System information:
Intel core I5 , 2.50GHZ , 8gb RAM , windows 8.1 , 64bit

Does the same problem exist when using a headset or earbuds with it?

Yes, The problem isn't just restricted to the speakers, when I plug in my headphone it still wouldn't work.

The downside of a Notebook/Laptop is it is hard to change the hardware, usually have to replace the motherboard. Cost-effectiveness comes into play based upon the age, if in warranty and if not whether one wants to invest in repairs with either no warranty or very short compared to the cost a new device. Adding the parts costs to labor costs can equal half or more of a new computer with a warranty.

If I were working on it I'd boot to a Linux LiveDVD [prefer Mint] and check to see if the problem is hardware or software related, if it works in Linux then the assumption would be it's a Windows and drivers issue.

Hi Popeye, I followed the instructions on the HP page you referenced but after I turned my computer back on and tried to install the file from my downloads it said that '' the hardware detected is not supported by this IDT software package , the install will be aborted '' I restarted my Laptop and the sound came back for about 5minutes and then it stopped working.

@Berton, how do I find out the problem using Linux?

When Linux loads try playing a song, VLC Media Player is included on the LiveDVD.
