Windows 8.1 - WAY too much bass

I just "upgraded" from 7 to 8.1. The first thing I noticed is that there is way way too much bass, across all multiple output options. I tried the headphone jack straight from my motherboard, and hooked a usb dac/amp connected to speakers and headphones. Too much bass on all options. I went into the enhancements tab and checked disable all enhancements, but it's clear that there is still a HUGE bass boost to the point of all my music being ruined. Is there any way to completely bypass all tone controls? If there's no way to get balanced sound I'm just going to switch back to 7.

More infos please. Soundcard? Driver version? What componets are used to play sound (amp, speakers, cables...). What player do you use? Without those infos it's nearly impossible to answer your question.

List sound card.
Must be settings in sound card software itself to cause this. Look for any kind of bass management, EQ ,smart volume. Doubtfully Windows 8.1.

Weird. I have this issue too. The culprit? Realtek Audio drivers. I found on my old 2014 edition Dell 7737 laptop (Inspiron) if I was running a clean install, and let Windows use the default drivers for sound and NOT install the realtek audio, everything sounded much better. Try and remove every trace of realtek audio and see if it makes a difference.

Seems to be Realtek drivers tend to have issues a lot, many posts in forums with issues with there drivers. Creative never so far given me issues, but i felt was in software settings itself, rather then driver.

The Realtek drivers have always been rubbish. My advice to the OP: Get a decent internal (PCI-E) or USB sound card. I would either go for one from Creative or Asus. Along with better hardware you will also get a better driver and accompanying software.

I have no problems with the Realtek drivers (downloaded from Realtek). I have a recording studio and use high end interfaces for that, but for just plain PC audio the Realtek and a 2.1 speaker system work for me. I do not use any of the Realtek sound enhancements, EQ settings, etc.

Err no need to get a new sound card. On my laptop, I just removed the realtek drivers from Revo uninstaller, rebooted, and windows detected it as a "High Definition Audio Device" instead of "Realtek High Definition Audio Device" , and now everything sounds MUCH better. I have always known this to be the case but since this laptop is brand new I wanted to test it a bit first. The realtek drivers still suck. Windows default drivers working fine for me.

Ending of this is similar to what i said at first, check settings in Realtek about bass, can not see that the drivers are causing an increase in bass.
Make sure getting the newest and proper drivers for laptop. In ways can not compare a laptop to a PC's audio as more can be upgraded on PC with a higher end card and speakers.

I have Creative Sound Blaster ZxR hooked to Logitech 500w 5.1 surround speakers, Creative software has many sound settings, bass management with bass redirection and gain settings. Needed to look into too.
