Solved No Sound

The device manager shows the Windows generic audio driver which doesn't work.
I've downloaded and installed (?) Realtek AC97 driver for Windows 7 but it doesn't show up in device manager.
What am I doing wrong?

Problem solved.
It had nothing to do with Windows 8, it was the settings in the VMWare Player.
Sorry if I've wasted anyone's time.
