8.1 issue with "Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation"

I had just made me a brand new i5 based configuration (check my system specs) and i decided to install a licensed os, in the form of Win 8.1 x64 Enterprise.

All worked well at first, but after installing a bunch of updates, my sound started to act out, at random times, it just stops and i have no audio coming out. All the icons and menus are ok, the sound test option works in device manager and the troubleshooter can't find any issues, but i have no sound on my system.

After much searching, i discovered that end task-ing the "Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation" service from Task Manager, brings my audio back, but the issue repeats itself everytime i close a audio source and open another (eg: close media player > open winamp = no sound again).

So right now, i keep the task manager opened and keep force closing that stupid service / background app for like 8-12 times per day

Any logs i can provide? or do you guys have any idea about this strange issue?

Check the Device Manager, Sound section. You should only have an entry for the RealTek sound and one for the NVIDIA High Definition (HDMI) sound. There should not be any other entries and if there is uninstall them in the Device Manger.

Refreshing the sound will fix any potential Windows/Sound corruptions. In the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the RealTek entry in the Sound section to highlight it and then LEFT click "Uninstall". Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound.

If that does not fix it, reinstall the RealTek drivers.

I don't know much about the Enterprise version other than it was made and intended for business uses, not for individual/gamer, etc users.

Thank you very much for your input, I found 4 sound devices in Device Manager and I disabled 2 of them, keeping just the ones you suggested.
I don't have any problems now, my sound works great and it never stopped after rebooting the pc to complete the changes.

Well, don't know what really happened, but my problem is back...

Tried reinstalling the drivers, both the windows one and the one from Realtek site, after a restart everything is ok for a day or so, but then it starts again, if I pause a movie or a song, when I press play again, the sound is gone!

It started to be really frustrating, I never had this issue with my previous Windows 7 installation. Windows 8 is still a gray area for me, I installed it just because I got a license for it, but I guess I'll go back to 7 if I can't fix this stupid sound issue.

I suspect you have a corrupted Windows 8.1 install. Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation is the Windows audio engine. In many cases of problems with this file, reinstalling Windows is required.

It would be better to have some other version of Windows other than Enterprise which is designed for business uses and not media applications. Although it should work, its like using a Ferrari when a Fiat is all that is needed.

I was afraid of this answer... I just finished setting up my PC and now I have to start again. I got this license for free, that's why I use it, maybe I'll wait for Windows 10 and jump straight to it, don't really want to go back to 7.

I want to try something, I have a Windows 8.1 Pro x64 installed at work and I was thinking that I can copy the "audiodg.exe" from it and replace the one from my installation, don't know it this is even possible, but I don't know what else to do besides starting over.
