Asus MX279H Monitor and Soundcard Trouble

Hi all,

My soundcard is an ASUS D2X
My Monitor is an Asus MX279H

My problem is I can't get the monitor to route the sound to just my soundcard and take advantage of using 4 speakers. I've tried using a 3.5 plug from monitor to soundcard with no joy.

The only way I can use the monitor speakers is if I select MX279-C as default but then obviously I can't use my soundcard or creative speakers.

I've attached a screenshot of my sound options.

Many Thanks

Windows will only allow one "default audio playback device".

I don't understand exactly what you want or want to do.

Before I brought this new monitor I was using my creative speakers together with my monitor speakers through my soundcard. So in essence I want a 'line in' to be my creative speakers and the 'surround sound' plug to be my monitor speakers.

Now I'm using a HDMI cable with this new monitor I cannot combine both sets of speakers to work together with my soundcard. As the HDMI cable obviously plugs into my NVidia card, where as before on my old monitor it was a 3.5 mm plug to my soundcard.

Could the OS or the Graphics card be choosing the HDMI as first preference over the 3.5 plug for sound? I've been trying the 3.5 mm plug in my new monitor but I cannot get it to work.

I'm running out of ideas?

As I mentioned you can only have one audio playback device, either the HDMI audio or the "Speakers" (PC Sound card). But, you can't have both and the reason running a cable from the monitor to the sound card does nothing.

Ok that's disappointing. Ok thanks for the advice.
