    Sound stops working Win8x64 CP.Build 8250 Toshiba Satellite L755-S5306

I am not able to find any event legs showing conflicts, failures anywhere around the time I notice my sound has stopped working, making it that much more difficult to resolve. As of right now I can reboot and sound will come back for an unknown length of time. Sometimes a few days to a few hours. Since I haven't been able to point to something causing this to try and figure it out myself, I'm not sure what additional information I can provide to get help in return, so ask and I will provide what I can. Thanks.

    Hi,

You can visit Realtek's site to download and install the latest HD Audio Codec driver.

This system has/uses Context HD audio, and I have the latest drivers.
I tried downloading realtek drivers just for giggles, and I just lost my sound again.
    Any other suggestions?

Yes, you're correct about that (Conexant) - this should be the driver to install, but I have a feeling you already have this version already...just putting it in case...

    http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/cont...c70107500k.exe

    Version 8.51.2.51

I would disable any apps it installs from starting with Windows. Use Regedit or the Task Manager for that.

Other than that, are you running any type of specialized software when this happens (or before it happens) such as a DAW or any audio processing software?

You'll likely find that stopping then restarting the Windows Audio service will fix it, so you don't need a reboot....until you figure out the cause.

If there is a bios update for the motherboard available, I would install that too.

OK here is the latest I can give you. I do a lot of encoding, H264(mpg4AVC)/AAC. Last night I thought maybe it could have been related to trying to do an encode and playing a video at the same time. I attempted to restart the Windows Audio service and it kicked back an Error1053 basically it did not stop for windows to start it again. So I rebooted started my batch encode and went to sleep. I woke up, my batch job was done and Audio was still working. I watched one of my videos and when I went to watch the 2nd, Audio had stopped working. Now I notice that VLC player will not properly close unless I end task from the Task Manager (don't know if that is related). I tried to restart the Windows Audio service again and got the same error 1053 did not stop in a timely fashion. So that is where I'm at. I'm rebooting after I post this.

O ya, I already did bios updates and all driver updates that I could think of after getting Windows 8. I have 8 installed on an extra HDD so if something bad happens, I just swap back to my original hdd and I'm back on the OEM installed OS.

110% related. Your issue is completely within this quote.

Some steps you might try to take to resolve it are:

    1) Install fdshow.

    2) Update VLC to latest and if it is already, ditch it for the time being and use Windows Media Player Classic Home Cinema instead. It uses hardware acceleration for x.264, while I'm not too sure about VLC. It didn't but may by now - but ya - try without VLC running at all until you know one way or another if it itself is the cause. (It is, likely.)

I think you may be right on the VLC issue, I had ignored the closing issue because I often opened multiple instances of it. I'll give another update later today or mark it as solved.

OK, well that error alone is not exactly the problem. I just rebooted and it happens each time I start a divx file with MPC. Closing MPC and opening the file again just results in more of that same event. I will find let you know if it makes a difference if I let this video play out and then start another one.
