Sound stops working Win8x64 CP.Build 8250 Toshiba Satellite L755-S5306

I removed AVG as suggested. I removed it once in safe mode without the tool from avg. Sound dropped again, so I went back into safe mode and ran the tool just to be safe, and it just went out on me again.

Cool. Complete the rest of my previous post and things should shape up.

TVALZ_O.SYS is an important power management driver for Toshiba laptops. Old versions like the one you have now are a known issue under 7/8.

If you can't find the specific driver for your model, it is part of the "Value Added Package" download. If downloading this to install it, you might have to use the device manager to install from its extracted directory. Also, check the device manager when done for the date of the driver to be newer - at least 2010 but newest is always best.

I got TVALZ_O to a 2009 version, haven't found a 2010 or newer version yet. the QI is also at 2009. The TVALZ is from the value pack listed for my model on the toshiba drivers page.

    My sound still stopped working.

    Three things to recommend:

    1) Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and delete all files shown that start with "AVG" and reboot.

    2) If none were there or it didn't help, then create a new account on the machine with Administrator privileges. Use that and test how it goes there.

    3) Another way to test is to use the Task Manager to disable everything starting with Windows. Save then reboot and see how that is.

Could also try disabling the Intel audio in the device manager, then reboot.

Disabling everything in startup from task manager did not help, but using a different profile login did resolve the issue. I suppose I have my answer, now I just have to put my finger on it.
