Hi, I've used Skype for the most part without problem since it took over from Messenger.
Following recent Skype updates the person I'm connected to receives a rapid repeated sound like a demented Woodpecker which stops while he speaks but starts again when he stops speaking. I can't hear this sound at my end; however if I use Skypes Call Test Sound I can hear this rapid dit dit dit when the sound test plays back to me.
I've tried Skype Forums without success other than to discover that others are having similar problems since recent updates.
In Device Manager I've tried ALL sound and recording settings which all state device working correctly. In addition I've checked Update Drivers and in all cases it states 'Latest driver installed'.
This has prompted me to try Windows 8 Forum as the experienced members of which have provided many correct solutions.
Thank you.

Although your are hearing the "sound" issue, this is not really a PC sound issue but more an application issue. The "echo" could even be on a remote server somewhere. Regular landline telephone circuits even have "echo cancelling" hardware in them.

As this has happened since a recent Skype update that is a good suspect and place to start. One of the other forum sections that are software oriented would also be a better place to post.

Thanks for your comments Fireberd, The problem is now resolved thank you. The person I mainly communicate with is my cousin and when visiting him yesterday we discussed the problem and having tried everything we could think of we felt that the latest Updates by both Skype & Windows 8.1.1 had made my old Logitech Web Camera obsolete/incompatible. Fortunately my cousin had a spare camera of later model and I installed it and all now working as it should be. This would seem to suggest that the problem was one that we perhaps too often encounter when updating the OS which leaves the hardware high and dry.
I noticed that a number of people were complaining of much the same problem and they too may find they will need to get a new camera.
Thank you.

Thanks for the feedback and that you got it resolved. Strange that the hardware was the problem since it worked previously. Generally, that doesn't happen with application updates.
