No volume icon showing in taskbar

I have reset explorer.exe and it pops back, but when I restart my laptop it does not show up again.

I have even gone into the registry and followed the instructions from this video on Youtube and it's still the same.

Fix Volume Icon Missing from Taskbar Problem in Windows 8/7/Vista - YouTube

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

According to the Dell downloads for the 15R SE, this has Conexant audio. Suggest you download and install the driver from Dell, as the first step.

    It suddenly popped up.
I restarted and it's popped up again.
I don't know why it suddenly decided to appear.
    I haven't done anything different.

Since its done it before, it may do it again. What do you have listed in the Device Manager, Sound section?

Conexant SmartAudio HD - I have the latest driver for this aswell, which I downloaded from the Dell website, specifically for my model of laptop.

Unless there is another later update that Dell are not showing?

What else is listed? e.g. are there any "High Definition Audio" listed? Just trying to find out if there are others there that should not be there. If there are others, that should not be there, they could be causing conflicts.

Under 'Audio inputs and outputs' there is:

    'internal microphone (Conexant SmartAudio HD)
    'speakers (Conexant SmartAudio HD).

Under 'Sound, video and game controllers' there is:

    Conexant SmartAudio HD
    Intel Display audio

Sounds correct, the Intel Display audio is for HDMI audio. However, the "Stereo Mix" should be set as the default recording device. That will allow whatever input (e.g. mic) to be heard/recorded. Also, if you ever want to record any audio from the internet you will need the Stereo Mix.

Look at what programs you have running when this happens, specifically programs that use audio. It may take a little time to see if one of those are causing it - stop a program from starting/running and then see if the icon goes missing. If the icon still goes missing, try a different program.
