sound gone after switching speakers to headphones!

Hello, this is really strange. Whenever I unplug the speakers jack and plug in the headphones, the sound stops! I have to restart the application or run another one and then the sound is back. This is really silly and takes time especially when you need to restart some game. Why does it happen and how can I disable this stupid behavior? Thank you

It is a desktop computer core i7 on Gigabyte X58A-UD3R integrated audio and as I said the sound just stops. I can just unplug the headphones or speakers and plug them back but there is still no sound! For example while playing a youtube clip and I unplug and replug the jack, the video keeps playing, but without sound. Sound starts again when I jump to another time in the clip or refresh the page. Unfortunatelly in games I have to restart it. I guess it may be a driver problem of the integrated audio. It says high definition audio device in device manager, so maybe I need to get some official driver, but I am not sure they exists for Win8 and this board...
Why do you think the brand of headphones would be of any use? They are some cheap genius, but as I said it happens both with speakers and headphones.

Why are you unplugging the speakers, to plug in headphones? Don't you have the speakers connected to the rear GREEN speaker jack and have a headphone jack on the front of the case? That is the normal way of doing things. If the proper front panel connection is made to the motherboard (HD Audio Connector) then it should sense the headphones and automatically switch.

Fireberd, because the cable would get into my mouse and I would have to make its way around a keyboard and such. It is just easier to unplug it from the motherboard and plug another cable. Anyway
I FIXED IT by installing gigabyte audio drivers for Windows 7 even though I have 8... Now when I unplug the cable and plug another one it shows some dialog asking me if it is headphones, front speakers, rear and other choices and it works AFTER I click OK. I find this silly why does the sound stop when I do not have this Realtek audio manager installed and just use the default microsoft drivers so there is no way to click into non existing dialog? Strange...

I had a Gigabyte motherboard and used the Win 7 RealTek drivers on Win 8 and they were compatible, too.
