I recently got a audio technica atr-2500 microphone and it has a headphone jack to listen to what your recording. But I don't think that has anything to do with it. The real problem is my sound is to loud, I would usually keep it on 32 but now I keep it on 8 percent. I have Realtek HD audio as the default play back device. At times I need adjust my audio in the mixer for things like Skype and games. Do I need to update my sound drivers?

If your sound changes from device to device, the fault should lie with one of the devices. If you are switching sound cards, you'll then need to update the driver.

It sounds like one of your devices has a separate volume control that is high or low in its own volume. That is all I can think of.
