Audio suddenly too low

I'm listening to an online training series of audio and video lessons. The sound suddenly has become so low that I can't hear! All the settings indicate the volume is maxed out. Speakers pass a test and otherwise work for things like itunes, just nothing I'm trying to access from the internet. Tried some Youtube videos just to test, and they are too quiet to hear as well.

Do you have volume controls on the speakers also if they are exterior speakers?
