    windows8 64bit

It was strange on 32 bit, it crackled with both realtek hd and windows hd drivers. As I record alot of internet radio and use my pc for mainly media it was very annoying. Then when I installed the 64 bit the sound was that good on the windows hd drivers that I didn't bother installing the realtec drivers and recording using total recorder is perfect. A bit confusing really

This should help though, for a quick workaround until there is:

No working sound drivers VIA VT1818 - Microsoft Answers

tried that method before it deletes speakers when roll back drivers hope they can make proper windows 8 drivers very soon hopefully before the RC comes out

I don't think the guy describes any "roll back". He says "change back".

Device manager >>> Right click VIA, update driver software, browse my computer, let me pick

There are Microsoft High Definition and Microsoft WDM Audio drivers to try then. I'd try the first one first, because that's what the guy in the post is talking about "updating" to after.

I read somewhere that the digital audio out works. Did you give that a try at all or have any way to?
