Hello, i installed windows 8 CP a few days back and i have been facing quite a few problems. The main one being the audio service not working. I tried a lot of solutions that have been given on the internet but its to no avail. When i try to start the windows audio service from the services screen, it gives me the following error:
Win 8 CP Error.jpg
I have no idea what this means. So kindly help me out with this.

My second problem is there is no dvd drive shown in the my computer tab. I tried mapping the device but was not able to. I tried upper filter and lower filters method and restarted the pc only to find them both no longer there.

It would be of great help if someone provides a solution for the above problems.

Hello,

I would not be surprised if there is a problem with your audio driver which is causing that.

You can otherwise check that the service is set to Log On as the Local Service account. The service does not need to have the box checked to interact with the desktop.

Follow the advice here:

Configure How a Service Is Started

If you still have issues, it would be best to create a new account with Administrator privileges on the machine and log into it. Test that account out and see if the audio service start well.

Hello GMan,
This didnt help. Audio service is logged on to the local service only. I created another account with administrator privileges and tried changing the properties. Still having the same problem and the same error 1297 pop up message appears.

In device manager, right click your audio adapter. Choose Properties then go to Details tab. Change the dropdown to say hardware ids. Copy/paste the results here.

After doing so, it is a good idea to run this command from an elevated (Admin) command prompt to ensure all OS files are well. If you applied any patches such as ones to remove the desktop watermark, it will undo them:

sfc /scannow

Thank you.

That is not the device manager, however. The device manager can be found by right clicking on the lower left corner of your screen.

I need to know the hardware id as requested to find you a driver to install. If there doesn't seem like there is anything like the audio adapter while expanding (double clicking) the Sound section of the device manager - then look to do so for the "unknown device" instead.

Along with that, hold down the Windows key and Pause/Break key at the same time. Does it say that you have a 32 or 64 bit system?

See all those listings in the Sound, video and game controllers section?

Right click on each and every one of them and choose to uninstall it. While doing so, also check the box to delete the driver.

When done, reboot. Then install this. It will be fine:

Realtek <<<< Get the top one shown.

Good luck and enjoy.

Still i cant start the audio to work. I uninstalled the listings under the Sound, video and game controllers section. Then restarted the pc, then installed the driver that u had asked me to. There is still that red 'x' icon on the audio service key on the taskbar.

You can post a new screenshot of the device manager if you wish.

You can also try to open an elevated (Admin) command prompt. Copy/paste this command then press enter:

net start audiosrv

--------

If that doesn't work, try this from the following link -

1. Open cmd.exe with Administrator rights
2. Type in:
"secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose"
3. Restart your computer when the process completes

You're welcome.

Yes, the upgrade was the reason. Microsoft has become extremely reliable with upgrades in the last few years compared to before that. Things still happen but if you're resourceful, anything can be worked out.

Not sure why you'd want the Realtek mixer since Windows has the ability to mix built it. (Other functions maybe?) Check for soundman.exe in C:\Windows\ That might be it but not sure. You could also check Program Files\Realtek for it.

It could be RTLCPL.exe or similar too.

DVD Problem - eh - not really a problem. Follow this. Scroll down to "let me fix it myself":

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

If it doesn't work, then type msinfo32 in start and press enter. File | save on the opened screen. Zip or rar the saved file and attach here.

You'll most definitely want to use the special tool found online to remove your Symantec product, in safe mode. Windows 8 already has MSE built in as a service and you don't want to have more than one antivirus solution installed at a time. Besides, Symantec software destroys performance greatly as well.

I would not at all be surprised if the drive shows up after, as I can see no other reason why it is not already. Norton/Symantec has been responsible for some of the most outlandish things that you would never think it could, in my vast experiences.

As it is, Windows does not even know the drive exists. Other than the above, I would check the bios to make sure the settings are correct for it - that its connected port is enabled and operating. See if the drive shows up in bios at all.

If there is an iTunes update available, install that.

I did not know windows 8 came with an antivirus software.

The DVD drive is listed as Atapi DVD A DH16A in the bios screen. When i clicked on enter, it showed:
Smart Support : Not supported
Capacity : 0MB
Transfer Mode : UDMA5

And i have the latest version of iTunes which is 10.6.
