Sound issues in the front panel of the computer

    Hi,

I'm so so sick to death of this. Microphone won't work at all. The plugin for the headphones works SOMETIMES. Right now it's not. It's a good system so I'm thinking it's the Creative drivers which are up to date. It's an Audigy card.

Not sure what other info will be needed.

    I'm running 8.1 currently updated.

PS. If you need my system specs they are filled out, so click on the "my specs" link at the bottom of my post.

    Thanks

I would check the connections from the motherboard to the front panel. Unlike the rear connections that are part of the motherboard, you have cables running from the motherboard to your front panel. According to your user manual, the connection is the F11 connection at the bottom. Make sure the pins haven't come loose.

I just got the computer seated and it's kinda sealed into it's limited space so I'll have to look into that perhaps tomorrow. It's been a day to say the least. Thanks for the info!

Well I got curious. I pulled the computer out just enough to get the mic plugged into the main mic output in the back to the card directly (Orange colored one I think?). Nothing. So looks like it might be the card itself. Getting the headphones to cooperate was a hassle so perhaps this card is on it's way out. I've checked for updates to the drivers and they are all updated. All that Creative Auto Update tells me is that it's a Sound Blaster Audigy card. No other info. System info won't tell me either nor this little utility I have called Speccy!

So I guess I'm in the market for a new card. Suggestions?

According to the spec of your MB. The built in Audio is a Realtek and I guess you are using an add-on Audio Card from Creative. Did you disable the on board Realtek Audio ?

Hi, Yes, I did that through the BIOS. I did make a booboo... It was the blue input for the mic. That works from the back. So perhaps it is the front panel after all. I'm so out of practice with computer innards not sure if I really want to deal with that. Wondering if there was a good USB headphone set out there that is good. Perhaps that would hook into the audio and give me what I want but then I'd hope that it would mute the speakers.

OK, The cable that connects to the front jacks usually has 2 connectors, one marked with AC97 and the other marked with HD Audio. Which one did you use to connect to the Creative Audio card ? it should be the HD Audio, have you checked that ?

The BLUE connection is not the mic input. The PINK colored jack is the industry standard for a mic. PC microphones require +5VDC which is on the "ring" connection to operate.

Also, if you are using the computer's front panel connection, it must be connected to the SoundBlaster sound card, not the motherboard sound connection. The motherboard sound connection point is only for the integrated (on the motherboard) audio.

Windows will not let you use 2 sound devices at same time. Another thing is that Audigy is not supported with win8 at all. Audigy4 is the oldest supported SB and even that one with great difficulties. In any case, newest Realtek codecs are better than those old SBs.

I kinda figured the SB Audigy was way way outdated. So what card would any of you suggest? I'm not into playing games but do watch Netflix on my large monitor and listen to music so nothing way out there with too many settings.

Oh and yes, I thought that the orange or pink WOULD have been the industry standard for the mic but if you look up my card in Google Images it's the blue one!
