audio/sound not working after updated my windows

After i installed windows update, i notice that my audio/sound is not coming up again. I've restarted my system countless time, and is still not coming up. Have checked the drivers and everything is ok but i can't play songs. Have tried using media player and xbox, but it couldn't play any file (xbox is saying 0xc00d11cd (0x8000ffff) error). Any possible solution to this please? My laptop brand is DELL inspiron 15R, windows 8

I had this when i went from 7 to 8. I just deleted the Device in Control panel devices and rebooted, all worked then.

What exactly did you deleted?

control panel
Device Manager
Sound, Video & Game controllers

I deleted all audio (in my case Realtek) by right click and uninstall, which removes the relevant drivers.

I then rebooted and win 8 picked them all up again and installed drivers

That was MY solution, and it worked.

Windows update KB2962407 is also suspected of being a cause to the problem. Those that have uninstalled it are not experiencing the problem. This update applies to Windows 8 and 8.1.

I've been having some of my windows sounds not work for some reason...so I uninstalled the realtek driver ...restarted computer...and reset audio device to default and all sounds are back again,...for how long?...I don't know...works now....Thanks for the tip!.*john

Hi...been a while but I still have the same issue of losing half the 8.1 Windows sounds...it happens on a weekly basis...and have to un-install Soundmax driver and re-install ,reboot and all is well again...this does not happen in Windows 10 and they both share the same PC...it's not very important but I hate it...I still have around 200 updates not installed...I'm wondering if one of them might solve this but who knows?...anyways I dought anyone has heard of this...thanks .*john
