i'm getting a crackling noise / robotic sound from my 5.1 speaker connected to pc via 3.5mm audio jack ... i'm using win 8 CP x64 ... motherboard has inbuilt audio chip by VIA ... audio codec - VT1708S .... though i'm using the latest driver ver. (v9.8), it can't solve the issue .. tried running it in win7 compatibility mode but to no avail (though the HD Vdeck is running 'n' i can access the settings from UI).... strangely it was working fine in win8 Dev Preview x64 .... the main prob. is that w/o VIA audio driver, i can't get front panel audio output via headphone ... i uninstalled it .. now the audio is fine with default microsoft hd audio ....

pls help if anyone can solve this crackling audio issue with VIA audio chip ....

Hi,

First try updating your wireless adapter driver from the chipset maker's website. (VIA, Realtek, Broadcom, Intel, Atheros)

If that doesn't help, try updating the motherboard bios version.

On the page you linked to is a bios revision from February of this year to install.

---------

Also on your linked page is the newest audio driver. After the above is tested, install the audio from there to make sure this is the version Windows uses. It's also a good idea to check that all the drivers from that page are installed.

Other than that, VIA audio is definitely seeing its issues on Windows 8.

Joygr11, it's not just VIA audio. People with Creative devices, myself included, are having the same issues. We will probably have to wait for various drivers to be updated by each manufacturer.

Hi there kramvk. I've seen something that VIA is definitely working on a beta driver for Windows 8. I don't think it will take long for it to be available.

My hp laptop scared the heck out of me after shutting down: big explosive-crackling noise from the speakers.

I had some issues with IDT high definition audio not installing properly: very notorious by now, it always had the same problem with linuxes but this is also with Windows 8 now.

The drivers that hp gave are for Vista and work only in Win7: in Win8 CP (x86 and x64) sound doesn't work with the same drivers.
The machine is: hp dv7 3100eb.

I'm gonna stick to Win 7 on this laptop until new drivers are available (don't wanna hear those explosions at shutdown again)

Thanks
Hopachi
