Looking at this headset, on a YouTube video, the mic portion plugs into the headset. Has this ever worked? If not, I would contact Creative as there may be a problem. Or, if you have access to another PC (a friend's) you could try it on that to see if it works.

As you have both on-board sound and a separate sound card, if you want to use the SoundBlaster you should disable the on-board in the BIOS. Having two can cause conflicts and things to not work. In addition Windows only allows one default audio playback device. Also, where are you plugging in? If its the front panel of the PC case, what audio do you have connected to the front panel? From the motherboard or from the SoundBlaster? Again, if you are using the SoundBlaster but have the motherboard audio connected to the front panel it won't work.

I have a Fatal1ty motherboard in one of my PC's, it is an ASRock Z77 Professional Fatal1ty.

Check out the manual on the sound board and review this site (Tip and ring: Information from Answers.com).

There are two "standards" for headsets with microphones. One, commonly used on smart phones and tablets, is a 4 contact (Tip-Ring-Ring-Sleeve) plug and jack set where the microphone is "piggybacked" on the stereo headphone signals. The other standard is common on sound cards used in desktop and notebook computers and it uses a 3 contact (T-R-S) plug and jack for output to the headphones and a totally separate 2 conductor jack (T-S) for the microphone input.

If your headset uses a single T-R-R-S plug and your sound board is designed to accept two separate plugs (1 T-R-S and 1 T-S) and you plug the single headset/mic plug into the sound boards headphone only jack you will get a signal to the two headphones earpieces but the mic is left unconnected.

There are quite a number of splitters on the market. With the correct version, you can adapt a single plug headset/mic combo to a board that wants two separate plugs.
