Sound issue

Hello! I have an HP laptop running Windows 8. Yesterday Windows updates were pushed across that I'm quite sure did not upgrade me to 8.1. Since then, after leaving the Chrome browser, I seem to have lost sound...and iTunes opens but will not play anything. To regain sound, I have to run CCleaner, cleaning out temp files, and restart the machine. I've tried to narrow this down to visiting a particular site, or running a particular process, but can't. Anyone else experience this weird problem? Thanks!

With only Windows 8.0 and the updates that were installed, that potentially could cause a lot of problems. Windows 8 is now up to 8.1.1.

No one else, on here that I know of, has reported this problem.
