Quiet and Choppy Sounds (Mostly in games)

Hi everyone,

I started having an issue with my sound two days ago; I first noticed it on a game called League of Legends when the SFX on the buttons started to sound quiet and glitchy, then when the champions started to sound quieter than they should, a few even echoed. I reinstalled League of Legends and that did little improvement to the sound issues but didn't fix the SFX and buttons, however, the music played just fine.

Then I tested out other games and had similar issues, either missing or choppy sounds.

I tried reinstalling my sound drivers but that made no improvement and didn't fix anything.

I configured my sound and volume settings as much as I could but that didn't improve anything either.
So far, it seems only SFX in games have problems and some music, my system sounds are perfectly fine and so are my other programs that I have tried so far.

Windows 8.1 Pro
Realtek High Definition Audio (6.0.1.7246 R2.75) (I believe that's the latest)
AMD A6-3659 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 2.60 GHz
64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
Installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (7.49 usable)
1TB Hard Drive C:

Listed system specs if needed.
(Sorry for just signing up for help, this seemed like the most helpful forum for Windows 8 & 8.1 users)

Could be several things

-BIOS drivers
-bad grounding
-check all drivers relating to your motherboard

Normally it revolves around something with the motherboard

I think I just discovered the real culprit behind the broken sounds.

I always use headphones when I'm my PC, whenever I unplugged them, the sound played crystal clear, but plugging them back in makes it sound buggy.

But now, my sound jacks on my speaker and PC won't work at all when I plug my headphones in.
I also don't see an option for Headphones under Playback Devices.

Normally when it's a headphone issue it's like something wrong with the headphone wire. A lot of the cheaper models have audio issues cause of this issue. (Have to love my wireless astros )

You're right, I did have a very cheap pair of headphones to sustain me for when I get a headset.

I just tried plugging in earphones and they work perfectly in all three jacks.
Thanks for helping me resolve my issue! I'll just have to avoid the cheap headsets haha.

Glad to see you was able to narrow it down. If you still wish to use the headset try to feel the wire for any bumps in the cord or any slices. Try to keep the cord as straight as possible as well. It can be quite tricky and there is no guarantee that will even solve your problem.
