No sound from speaker/headphones, can't find any errors.

A couple of days ago, I decided to move my tower from my desk to the floor. Everything was working beautifully up until then. I opened it up and removed some dust. After putting it back together, the monitor wouldn't register anything. I left it for a day, came back, and the monitor magically worked again. The wifi card stopped working, but importantly, the sound was working. After leaving it for a night, I came back, reseated the wifi card, and magically, the card worked again. But now, the sound won't work! It's been several days, and this is the situation:

    * The sound is not muted. When I press the speaker icon in the tray, the green volume bar moves up and down, as though sound is playing

    * If I troubleshoot the 'playing audio', it says that no peripherals are plugged in. I found that if I went into Realtek HD Audio Manager and disabled 'front panel jack detection' in the connection settings, the computer suddenly apparently realises that I do have speakers connected, and when I troubleshoot audio again, it doesn't find any errors. I have to do this every time I restart, but the sound still doesn't work.

    * I've downloaded and reinstalled the Realtek HD Codecs twice.

    * In Device Manager, it recognises the integrated sound card:

(the PCI Simple Communications Controller device is Intel Management Engine Interface)

    * I've disabled and enabled the devices many times, but no dice.

    * I've reinstalled the chipset drivers from the motherboard manufacturer

    * I've gone into my computer and unplugged and re-plugged any wires that may have come loose.

Please, please help. It's the holidays, and I want to immerse myself in video games. But that's pretty much impossible with no sound .

    Thanks!

I see you have both High Definition Audio Device and RealTek listed in the Sound Video and Game Controllers. In most cases the High Definition Audio Device is a Windows installed generic sound driver. Since you have RealTek, you do not need this and it can conflict. Uninstall the HD Audio Device (in the Device Manager), restart the PC and see what happens.

Also, double check the motherboard connection for the front panel audio. Although you have "unplugged and re-plugged" wires, check it again. The other possibility with the front panel. Try disconnecting the front panel headset/mic connection at the motherboard and see what happens (not disable it in the RealTek HD Manager).

Thanks for the reply! I uninstalled the HD Audio Device, and restarted. But no change, and when I went back into Device Manager, it seemed to have reinstalled itself. I also switched off the computer, and disconnected the front panel connection, but the sound still doesn't work. When I turned the computer back on, a little bubble came up and informed me that an audio jack had been disconnected.
    I also noticed this:

There's four of those Digital Audio (HDMI) devices. That can't be normal, can it?

    Thanks again for the help!

Aha! The High Definiti9on Audio Device driver is the HDMI audio driver. That is installed because you do not have the correct AMD Radeon video driver installed. Install the correct AMD Radeon driver. The four HDMI audio device listings is normal. I have 6 listed for my Radeon HD 7770 Video Card's HDMI.

It sounds like the Sound chip is detecting properly. Since you moved it, double check where the speakers are plugged in. They should be plugged into the GREEN speaker jack.

I installed the AMD Radeon Video driver, so now I have this:
Which is awesome, but the sound still doesn't work . I've also triple-checked that the speakers are in the green jack!

What else could possibly be the problem? Is there any possibility that I somehow broke a small part of the motherboard while cleaning it? Or do you think it's purely a software issue?

    Thank you so much!

EDIT: also, I had a look at my playback devices, and in the speakers properties, it shows:

The green jack in the back panel isn't there under jack information!

EDIT 2: Okay, major breakthrough in this case! I found that when I slide the volume bar from mute to unmute for the speakers, I can hear something from the speakers. Sounds like a quiet thud. But sound still won't work!

If you installed proper Realtec drivers you should have a Realtec HD Audio manager in the Control Panel. Setting it from there overrides windows sound controls and you can test it from there. Do all that from back sound connectors because front are connected with wires to MB and one or more are maybe broken.
Disconnect front speakers from MB and yes you have in the back Front Speakers jack, its Lime green.

Okay, I went into the Realtek HD Audio Manager, but messing with the volume didn't do anything. All I can hear is that quiet thud when I change the volume from mute to not-mute. Doing everything from the back!

Is there anything else I could try?

    Thanks for the help!

Have you tried the most basic thing, to plug them in some other device and see if they work at all ?

Yeah, it was one of the first things I did. Speaker works perfectly with my mobile phone. And since the headphones also don't produce sound, I'm guessing that it must be an issue with the computer.

The question is, is it software or hardware that's causing the problem? :O

64bit_Win7_Win8_Win81_R275 is the newest driver for Realtec sound chip. Other than that looks like HW issue. You have Black sound output jack at the back of MB, its for Rear speakers. If you set 5.1 or 7.1 in the control panel realtec HD utility and test speakers from there it would show you if Front speaker jack is maybe defective. There is also Orange jack for Central /Bass speakers that should give test sound when plugged in at 7.1 setting.
